In a collaboration with the City Youth Development Office (CYDO), led by Mr. Ralph Asuncion, the Puerto Princesa City Water District (PPCWD) successfully hosted four (4) facility tours for the members Apuradong Kabataan ng Puerto Princesa (AKAPP), student leaders, and school organizations from different schools in the City of Puerto Princesa.
These facility tours provided rich knowledge and hands-on opportunities to witness the process involved in water treatment and explore the comprehensive operations and project improvements of the 30MLD Lapu-Lapu Water Treatment Plant.
This is also an opportunity to educate students to report any water leakages found in their area and answer their questions about water supply.
Part of the program is to emphasize the importance of environmental conservation in the watershed, and shared initiatives in preserving the natural environment, including tree planting, watershed rehabilitation, and sustainable water use practices.
The students also conducted raw water quality tests as part of their experience.
This collaboration is a shared responsibility in empowering and inspiring the youth in instilling environmental consciousness and active participation in conservation efforts through proper dissemination of information and education about safeguarding the city’s natural resources and ensuring access to clean water for future generations.
This activity is aligned with PPCWD’s Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) Plan, which prioritizes community engagements and environmental awareness.
Looking forward, PPCWD plans to continue its goal of conducting more facility tours in 2025, to reach a broader audience of students, such as college students, and strengthen our collaboration with the CYDO.
